December 10th, 2011Future Financial Failure of Levoy Acknowledged
For the residents of Millville who were not able to attend last evenings City Commission meeting or view it on cable, you must rely on the newspapers account of what transpired. Yes, it was reported that $1.6 million dollars of UEZ money (taxpayers money) was appropriated to the continued construction of the Levoy. What was not reported was that the reason the Sun Bank withdrew their loan of $1.6 million dollars to the Levoy is because they, the Levoy Board, failed to adhere to the conditions of the original contract with the Sun Bank. And it can be safely gleaned from the Sun Bank’s withdraw, together with the following acknowledgment by both the city leaders and the Levoy leaders, that an investment in the Levoy is a risk the bank is not prepared to make.
The newspapers neglected to report that a citizen, Mr. Paul Porreca, Sr., asked the city commissioners to publicly make a commitment to the taxpayers that they would not entertain future financial support for operating expenses requested by the Levoy. With the exception of Mr. Dave Vanaman, who publicly stated he would not support future financial support, the remaining commissioners refused to make this commitment to the taxpayers. Mr. Porreca then asked the Van Embden’s if they would make a commitment to the taxpayers of the city to not go to the city for additional operating expenses after the approval of the $1.6 million dollars. The Van Embden’s, in keeping with four of our five city leaders, refused to make this commitment.
If one is to be objective in their thinking, this can only be interpreted one way. They, the Van Embden’s through their lack of commitment acknowledge that the Levoy Will Not be a financial success and that they will continue to solicit taxpayer’s money to fund the day to day operations of the Levoy. And Mayor Shannon, Vice Mayor Derella, Commissioner’s Quinn and Finch acknowledge through their lack of commitment that they will continue to approve taxpayer’s money to keep the Levoy operational.
Too Big To Fail at the expense of the taxpayers!
